Light,
simple,
luscious and
delectable,
Beacon, an
Asian Café
is just that
to Culver
City, a
beacon of
hope to
eaters everywhere, or at
least in the
Culver City
area for
those who
find
themselves
hungry east
of the 405.
Beacon is
owned by a
somewhat
renowned
chef hubby
and wife
team, if you
care about
such things
(Spago,
Wolfgang
Puck,
Chinois on
Main, etc,
etc.). The
cuisine they
serve is
vibrant
fusion,
comes on
pretty
plates and
features
small tastes
of noodles,
salads,
sushi,
sashimi, and
more. They
do offer
some
classics,
sort of; Ahi
Tuna Pizza
is the only
pie on the
menu, and it
comes with
Wasabi
mayonnaise
and pickled
ginger. In
the mood for
a BLT? That
comes with
seared
Albacore.
Other menu
standouts
include the
Sugar Snap
Pea Salad
with Laura
Chenel Goat
cheese,
cashews, red
radish and
Ume-Shiso
dressing and
what many
are calling
the best
dessert in
the city,
Coconut Rice
and Mango
Brulee. A
must save
room for
ending if
ever there
was one.
The décor is
very art
deco,
probably
because the
place is
housed in
the historic
Helms Bakery
in the
design
section of
Culver City.
Housed in
fact in the
old laundry
space there,
creating a
cool and
interesting
inside
space,
complimented
by a great
and big
outdoor
space with
not one, but
, two sides,
smoking and
non, perfect
for the
alfresco
dining we so
love here in
LA no matter
what your
vice.
If for some
reason you
can’t find
this
fabulous
spot, just
look for the
tall
lighthouse-esque
tower of a
sign atop
the
building;
bold,
beckoning,
neon blue, a
beacon in
the night,
guiding you
to safe
harbor in
the murky
waters of
foodie LA.
