Everything but
the kitchen
sink, wait I see
that too.
Did you have
grandparents who
had a big old
house that had
one of those
amazing attics
in it like you
only really see
in the movies?
Well, I did. I
thought it was
the coolest
place when I was
a kid and loved
to go visit and
explore whenever
I had the
chance. A total
jumble of this
and that,
masculine and
feminine, this
era and last.
Now, imagine if
someone took
that kind of
space and opened
a restaurant in
it. No cobwebs
and dust of
course, but a
large open area
decorated with
just about
anything and
everything and
yet still emits
warm, homey,
comforting
feelings that
makes you want
to come and in
and hang out for
a while. That is
the spirit
behind
BoHo,
Hollywood’s
first gastropub.
BoHo is taken
from the two
words Bohemiam
and Hollywood
which perfectly
exemplifies the
world of BoHo.
Owned by club
maven, Adolfo
Suaya, the
restaurant was
until recently
the space known
as Charcoal,
located next to
the Arclight on
Sunset. Of
course, you
would hardly
recognize it now
with it’s
collection of
mismatched
lamps, bad oil
paintings
(Hello! dogs
playing poker)
and clutter
kitsch on just
about every
surface. BoHo
was conceived as
a
neighborhood-friendly
pub, the kind of
place you can
run into for a
bite and a beer
(over 25 on tap)
and not break
the bank.
Especially these
days, that is
very important.
But what is any
restaurant
without a
spectacular menu
to back-up it’s
ever so inviting
ambiance. Chef
Andre Guerrero
does not
disappoint when
it comes to all
things culinary.
Why not try the kalbi barbecue
pizza which
comes with sides
of chili paste
and kimchi or
the delicate
onion soup made
with oxtail
broth and
smothered in
Gruyere. There
are also moist
short ribs in a
tangy sauce
served with
buttered
spaetzle, which
have received
great word of
mouth already,
and grilled
octopus salad
with blood
oranges,
watermelon
radishes and
fennel for when
you’re in the
mood for, well,
grilled octopus.
It is the
familiar with an
unfamiliar, but
delicious, twist
that has already
started foodies
talking. And in
a good way.
So come in, get
comfortable and
enjoy the time
with family,
friends, and
really good
food. It’s kind
of like being at
home, but you
don’t have to do
the dishes. But
you do have to
pay for it, so I
guess it really
is a trade off.
Trust me –
you’ll be back.
