Ask any student
who has ever
studied abroad
in Paris what
the best part of
the experience
is, and I
guarantee they
will tell you
without
hesitation, it’s
the food!
There’s nothing
better than
strolling down
twisty Parisian
streets, knowing
you could stop
in any little
café along the
way, expect and
be served,
exceptional
cuisine.
Café Flore
evokes the same
feeling; it is
as if you
somehow wandered
out of Beverly
Hills and into
another country.
Whether you dine
inside among the
faux European
paintings and
plants or
outside, sipping
coffee, eating a
croissant with a
tiny yippy lap
dog, you will
feel très
Francophone.
The French staff
is very
accommodating
and attentive,
especially if
you toss around
a few French
phrases. Try
saying, “je
voudrais un
sandwich
d'aubergine,
s’il vous plait”
rather than “I
would like an
eggplant
sandwich if you
please.” Or “Qu’est
que c’est le
ravioli du jour
aujourd'hui?”
instead of,
“What is the
ravioli of the
day today?”.
Either dish,
ordered in
either language,
will taste
delicious.
The cuisine at
Café Flore
infuses
traditional
French favorites
with a
California vibe;
it is the kind
of place where a
vegetarian and a
foie gras fan
will find
gastronomic
harmony. And
when it comes to
dessert, it’s
hard to argue
with the French;
cake, pastries,
meringues –
they’re all
delicious, and
particularly
tasty here is
the raspberry
couli with
mousse. The
staff is very
proud of their
desserts – so
good they were
featured on KTLA
– and will be
happy to
recommend
something for
you. Café Flore
serves a great
Sunday brunch,
not very French,
but oh so
fantastic. The
crepes and the
bread pudding
are a must, and
the really good
thing is the
portions are
generous,
begging the
question: Can
you ever eat
enough crepes?
Just know that
parking can be
difficult; it is
LA after all.
