First Came Chaplin, Then Campanile

A Hollywood legend, Campanile, occupies the space built in 1929 by another Hollywood legend, Charlie Chaplin. In 1989, after a major renovation, Chef Mark Peel, Pastry Chef Nancy Silverton, and Wine Buyer Manfred Krankl opened La Brea Bakery and Campanile, which as many Angelinos can attest to, have served up award winning culinary delights from their inception. As soon as you walk in the door, you’ll feel that old world charm with the “dramatic art nouveau style architecture” evidenced by subtle golden hues, curved doorways, soft lighting, and stylish dark brown chairs aligned with tables dressed elegantly in white. Experience one (or more) of their special event nights; the fantastic variety of cuisine offered weekly will certainly entice you to return.

Special events are unique and special indeed. Monday night dinners incorporate a theme oriented three course menu served family style; the menu changes often so be sure to check the website for updates. Friday night wine flights are a great opportunity to sample a variety of fare with small three course menu offerings, each paired with a specific wine from their extensive wine list.

Thursdays Grilled Cheese night has become quite the favorite so reserve your spot early. Remember those toasted cheese sandwiches your mom used to make? Well, this is the decadent, grown-up version. Choose from 12 different selections along with appetizers and desserts. Try The Classic, with marinated onions and whole grain mustard, or go crazy and order the Gorgonzola Dolce with roasted radicchio, spiced walnuts and honey. Need a little more substance? Don’t despair; the menu also includes items such as the Autostrada, a mix of cured meats, aged provolone, and cherry peppers.

For lunch you’ll find a variety of small bites, along with delicious entrée’s such as the Turkey Hamburger, Grilled Snapper, or Crisp Flattened Chicken to name a few. You’ll find dinner just as delectable. Select a refreshing Blood Orange Salad or one of many appetizers to start. For the main course, opt for the Grilled Rare Hawaiian Big Eye Tuna, Grilled Maine Scallops with lobster, or maybe the Grilled Prime Rib. Whatever your hunger quotient is, you’ll find many tasty combinations to satiate your palate. Save a little room as dessert is too good to pass up; especially the mouthwatering Chocolate Mousse, one of many delights on the menu.

Be sure to mark your weekend calendar for their ever popular Saturday and Sunday Brunch. With La Brea Bakery Granola, Belgian Waffles, eggs any style, breakfast sandwiches, and specialty salads, you just can’t go wrong. Reservations are recommended as this has become a hip weekend late morning hang.

So, whenever the mood strikes you, come and enjoy the outstanding cuisine, excellent service, and comfortable atmosphere at this happening Hollywood landmark; with so much to choose from, you’re guaranteed to become a fan.
