Black &
Tan, Black &
Blue, Casey’s is
the Pub for You!
Just below Grand
Avenue in
Downtown L.A.’s
financial
district is
Casey's
Irish Bar and
Grill.
As you descend
the brick stairs
into this cool
subterranean
hang, you could
be anywhere back
East; New York,
Boston or
Chicago maybe.
My favorite
place in the
restaurant is
the brick walled
patio just as
you enter from
street level.
Looking up you
see the bustle
of the city,
filtering in
through hanging
vines and truly,
you are worlds
away. Of course,
the 60-foot
mahogany bar,
the hand
pressed-tin
ceiling and
walls lined with
antiques and
rare photographs
make the inside
inviting too, an
Irish oasis on
any given day.
The tattooed
wait staff is a
bit saucy, but
that’s to be
expected in an
Irish pub. They
do bring the
drinks and the
food, in that
order, and that
is what really
matters. You can
get all your
traditional pub
favorites here
and some LA
stock and trade
dishes as well
for those who
“don’t do carbs”
and want some
healthy options;
pan seared
organic salmon
and the scallop
salad topping
the list of the
healthier eats.
For the Irish in
you, The Fish &
Chips is really
good,
particularly
with a side of
Lager. And for a
great burger,
try the Black
and Blue; a good
sized hunk of
beef seasoned
with blackening
spices and
topped with
Maytag, a must
have to
accompany a pint
of Guinness.
Golden deep
fried onion
rings round out
any meal, and
are always a
stellar option
with a pint of
Stella. This
joint has really
got the Irish
thing down; with
over 30 years at
this location
and several
rounds of chefs
and owners to
get it right,
they have.
Casey’s is cool
with a big, big
C.
