In the 40’s &
50’s the
enchanting and
magical patio at
6530 Sunset was
Le Gourmet
Restaurant, a
haven for the
entertainment
industry, the
likes of
Katherine
Hepburn and
Humphrey Bogart
often amongst
the crowd of
diners. For the
last twenty some
years it has
been the home of
Cat &
Fiddle
Restaurant &
English Pub,
a cool Hollywood
hang if ever
there was one,
and though it
may no longer be
a haven for the
industry crowd,
it certainly is
a frequent
destination.
This place has
history.
But that is not
the reason to
visit the Cat. A
cold pint of
cider, a
Ploughman’s
Lunch, lazily
enjoyed on a
weekday
afternoon on
what is arguably
the best patio
in LA LA land
is. Friday
nights aren’t
bad either, as
this joint is
always jumping;
Fish & Chips, a
pint of
Guinness, a
saucy waitress
to throw it down
and people
watching galore
under the stars.
Free Jazz on
Sunday nights
always has the
patio swinging,
a seat amongst
the twinkle
lights hard to
find, but worth
the hunt. Did we
mention just how
awesome and
charming this
patio is?
The English grub
here is the real
deal with house
made Bangers by
an actual
English chef.
You can even buy
them by the
pound to enjoy
at home.
Shepherd’s Pie,
Welsh rarebit,
Bread and Butter
Custard, it is
all here along
with an uber
selection of
beer on tap.
Whatever British
fare you have a
craving for and
at whatever time
for the matter
as the kitchen
is open 7 days a
week from
11:30am until
11:30pm, later
on weekends.
Cat & Fiddle is
family owned and
managed, most of
the staff has
been there for
years, just like
the regulars –
it has that kind
of vibe. Never
out of style,
always happening
with a mix of
old school
Hollywood types,
Expats and new
hipsters who
have just
discovered it,
the Cat is like
an old friend
that should be
visited often.
Hey diddle
diddle, it’s
where to go to
get your Brit
on.
