What has wheels,
comes from
Korea, and puts
food into a taco
shell?
The Kogi Taco
Truck
which supplies
Korean BBQ tacos
and burritos to
the hungry,
hungry hipsters
of LA. While the
truck appears to
be the standard
meals on wheels
vehicle, to
compare it to a
Roach Coach is
like comparing
J.K. Rowling
(Harry Potter)
to Stephanie
Myers
(Twilight): they
both authored
hit book series,
but Rowling is
so much higher
quality she puts
Myers to shame.
And indeed, the
KT Truck offers
high quality
meat, gourmet
cooks (they used
to work for the
Ritz Carlton and
the Four
Seasons) and
innovative menus
at inexpensive
prices.
If you want to
dine on fusion
fare like Korean
polenta with
mung beans, or
tacos with spicy
Korean pork or
tofu, you are
going to have to
do a little
sleuthing. The
truck hits all
the hot spots of
LA. You can find
their schedule
on their website
or if you are
high tech enough
to twitter (a
sort of
texting/blog
mashup that
uploads info up
to your phone
the minute a new
update goes
live) you can
sign up for
their feed.
Also, make sure
to ask about
their specials –
you never know
what Chef Roy
will come up
with next!
Just know that
with the
convenience of
mobility comes
the
inconvenience of
no parking lot –
and this is LA
after all,
depending on
where they are
stationed,
parking can be
very hard to
come by.
However, once
you do manage to
find a spot and
the truck, you
will most likely
join its legions
of stalkers and
not want to let
it out of your
sight. If you
don’t feel like
chasing after
the truck, Kogi
caters special
events.
Pick up a taco
or burrito from
this truck and
you’ll never
look at mobile
food stands the
same way again.
