The name
Novel Café
is perfect for
this restaurant,
in that it has a
novel take on
traditional food
and you dine
surrounded by
novels that you
are free to read
while you wait.
It’s location in
Westwood and
laid back vibe
makes it a
favorite study
destination for
many bruins. My
friend swears by
it as a place
for first dates
because if the
guy or gal you
bring is a dud,
you can always
find a good book
to look at. It’s
organic and
savory food make
it a great place
to grab
breakfast for
lunch or dinner
for breakfast as
the whole menu
is served all
day. On it
you’ll find
typical diner
offerings with a
bit of a
California/Healthy
twist.
Here you can
dine on wheat
pancakes or
organic oatmeal.
I adore the
Novel Rancheros:
Two fried eggs
served on corn
tortillas with
black beans,
rice, guacamole,
and homemade
salsa. The staff
is friendly and
more than happy
to make
substitutions to
any dish. Want
egg whites and
feta with that
Santa Fe Omelette
(Mexican chorizo
sausage,
homemade pico de
gallo salsa,
chips, corn,
black beans, and
jack or cheddar
cheese)? No
problem!
Vegetarians and
vegans alike
will also be
happy with menu
items like a
tofu scramble
which uses soy
instead of eggs.
Don’t worry
though, health
conscious meat
eaters will be
pleased as well
since turkey and
chicken patties
can be
substituted on
any of their
mouth-watering
burgers (many of
which include
avocado).
As tempting as
it is to fill up
on Goat Cheese
and Eggplant
Melts or Grilled
Veggie
Quesadillas,
make sure to
save room for
dessert because
the three layer
chocolate cake
is so good that
written words
can not
adequately
describe it; it
is something to
be experienced,
not read about.
The menu has
variety and
plenty to offer
anyone; whether
they are
watching what
they eat, have
special dietary
needs, or are
just plain
picky.
The next time
you’re on the
Westside drop in
and peruse a
book along with
your menu:
neither one
should
disappoint.
