If you like a
little flash
with your South
of the Border
fare, then the
hip, albeit
kitschy
Pinches Tacos
is the taco
stand for you.
Done up in
vintage Mexican
style, this
joint is the
happy middle
ground between
fancy eateries
and down home
street vendors,
brought to you
by the Anaya
brothers of
SilverLake’s Cha
Cha Cha fame. It
doesn’t hurt
that their dad,
Miguel Sr., who
watches the
kitchen very
closely to make
sure the decades
old family
recipes are done
just right, has
spent some time
at a little
place called The
Ivy.
Pedigrees in
tact, everything
is made from
scratch with
super fresh,
high quality
ingredients,
including the
tortias.
Favorites at
this
Guadalajaran
style eatery
include the al
pastor pork, the
adobada and the
chicken molé,
just like it was
made 114 years
ago – yes, the
family recipes
are that old.
Pinches is the
real deal, and
you can hang on
their patio
right at the
edge of the
Sunset Strip
from 11am to
3am, eating, and
drinking, as
long as you
order your cervezas from
the liquor store
across the
street, who will
deliver. No,
they do not
serve any
alcohol, but
they do not mind
if you bring
your own – who
can argue with
that? And no
corkage fee to
boot.
Parking can be a
bear, so some
frequent the
place for
take-a-way only.
Walking down
after a show at
the Whiskey can
be a great way
to round off,
and sober up the
night- perfect
for those who
already ponied
up their $15
Sunset Boulevard
parking fee
somewhere else.
Foodies might
find Pinches
below their
destination
dining standards
– but at 2am,
after a night of
drinking and
frolicking, a $2
taco is delish
any way you fold
it – locals on
the strip like
it just fine –
and you will
too. Viva
Pinches.
