There’s neither
a sign nor a
front entrance,
but that doesn’t
mean it doesn’t
exist. In
through the back
of the Los Feliz
staple, known as
Vermont
Restaurant, sits
this not so tiny
enclave going by
the name of
Rockwell, VT:
six thousand
square feet of
distressed
leather, clean
lines, with a
Coral Tree as
its focal point
and plenty of
seating to get
your drink on.
Just knowing
about this
hidden treasure
makes you hip;
visiting it puts
you on a whole
other level.
Promised to be
Los Feliz’s new
watering hole,
Rockwell is an
indoor/outdoor
(mostly outdoor)
bar, restaurant,
lounge that has
brought
Hollywood chic
to the Eastside.
Vermont’s chef,
Stephane Beacamp,
has graced
Rockwell’s menu
with his
culinary talent,
serving up more
small plates
than full
dinners. Try the brussel sprouts,
pan seared with
pancetta and a
balsamic
vinaigrette, the
meatballs
drizzled with
olive oil and
parmesan, or the
calamari with
ginger, shallot,
and chile.
Rockwell serves
up a menu that
is a far cry
from your
typical bar food
making this
multi-level bar
a multi-purpose
hot spot.
Drinks-wise,
there’s the
Autumn with
Hangar One
Frasier River
vodka, crushed
raspberries,
basil and lime,
the Lovely Pear
made from honey
infused Bullett
bourbon, pear
liquer and
chilled pear
nectar, and the
cocktail that
predates the
Civil War,
Sazerac Vermont
with Rittenhouse
rye, Peychaud's
bitters and
absinthe. It’s
older than your
ancestors, but
hey, it still
does the job.
Vermont’s little
sister has big
shoes to fill,
but so far
Rockwell seems
to be hitting
high marks. With
good food, stiff
drinks, and a
stylish crowd,
this bar has all
the right
elements under
one roof. Or
might I say,
under one big
starry sky.
