On a side street
off Sunset
Boulevard in
Hollywood there
is a place the
locals know,
where we who
have lived in LA
for awhile have
been going for
awhile. And as
long as this
place is still
standing we will
be amongst the
people standing
in line to get
in, be it late
night, early
morning or
somewhere in
between.
This institution
to the fried and
the sticky sweet
is none other
than
Roscoe’s House
of Chicken ‘N
Waffles.
Just the mention
of the name -
the craving
comes on strong
- the mouth
waters at the
promise. If
you’ve been, you
know what we are
talking about,
because there is
nothing like
this combination
anywhere. Yes
Virginia,
chicken and
waffles do go
together and at
this Los Angeles
landmark to all
things yummy
they go together
very well.
Though this fare
is not of the
everyday
healthful type
Angelino’s
supposedly
aspire to, there
is always a
crowd and a wait
for a table -
clearly the
comfort of this
down-home food
is just what the
doctor ordered!
We suggest our
favorite, the
ever popular
#13; one
succulent breast
and one
delicious waffle
delightfully
paired,
enticingly
sumptuous. There
is just
something about
the crispy
crunch of the
perfectly fried
chicken dripping
with a splash of
syrup. Add a
side of Mac &
Cheese, and
perhaps a
biscuit
smothered with
gravy and truly,
you are in food
nirvana.
This place has
history,
Hollywood types
and a Hollywood
resume too,
featured in many
a movie
throughout the
years. The cross
section of
people relishing
the tasty treats
served here runs
the gamut of the
LA population
from the silly
rich to the
tragically hip,
all equals where
waffles are
concerned. And
every time my
parents are in
town from Ohio,
you will find
them here as
well, as they
are happy
converts to the
virtues of the
fried and sweet
combo that is
the Roscoe’s
legacy.
With each visit,
your taste buds
will tingle,
your tummy will
be content, and
all will seem
right with the
world. Until
your last
bite………….
