The famed
Eric
Greenspan is
cooking up
some
spectacular
fare and
some “fancy
schmancy
food” at his
new
restaurant,
The
Foundry On
Melrose.
Mirroring
the food in
style and
cutting
edge, the
décor is
many things;
art deco,
casual-chic,
industrial
materials,
yet all with
an old world
charm. Think
Machine Age
meets
streamlined
Modernism.
There is a
bar with a
jazz club
feel in
front, a
bustling
open-kitchen
dining area
in the
middle, and
a lovely,
intimate
patio in the
back,
complete
with an 18ft
olive tree,
fireplace,
and a view
of the stars
once the
louvered
roof is
open. The
limited menu
changes
weekly but
does build
around
favorites
like short
ribs; one
week paired
with a small
hanger steak
and brown
butter-mashed
potatoes,
the next
with
heirloom
tomatoes,
creamed
Swiss card,
and a Choron
sauce. Other
favorites
include the
cider-glazed
pork belly,
the
Tater-Tot
fondue from
the bar menu
and for
dessert,
s’mores
brûlée.
Foodies
beware, the
menu really
is ever
changing, so
today’s
favorite may
be tomorrows
no more,
though those
with an open
palette will
always find
something.
The cheese
plate
(rumored to
be the best
in town) is
always a
great start,
and if the
$75 tasting
menu if
being
offered,
that, and of
course some
wine, is
always the
way to go.
Relax and
nosh in the
Lounge. The
comfy
leather
couches go
well with
the live
Jazz on
Friday and
Saturday
nights.
Bring the
family for
Sunday’s
fixed-price
dinners.
Have an
elegant
dinner on
the
delicious
patio. There
are so many
options, too
many for
just one
night. But
this place
is more than
a one night
pony, so you
will be back
to enjoy
another, and
have a whole
new
experience.
