Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! (G) Steve Carell as the Mayor of Whoville and Jim Carrey as Horton the elephant lend their voices and comedic talents to the animated family adventure based on the original Dr. Seuss story. In the 20th Century Fox release, Horton struggles to protect a microscopic civilization on a speck of dust from his unbelieving neighbors. The directors are Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino; other voice actors include Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen and Dan Fogler.

Doomsday (R) In this English-made sci-fi thriller from Rogue Pictures, a deadly plague breaks out in Great Britain leading to a brutal quarantine period with a few walled-in survivors. Decades later a team ventures into the ravaged land in search of a cure for the returning plague. The cast includes Rhona Mitra, Bob Hoskins and Malcom McDowell; the writer-director is Neil Marhsall ("The Descent").

Fighting for Life (No Rating) Two-time Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Terry Sanders presents this non-fiction account of military doctors, nurses and medics treating wounded soldiers and Marines on the front lines of the Iraq War. A Truly Indie release.

Funny Games (R) Acclaimed Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke ("The Piano Teacher," "Cache") remakes in English his own 1997 thriller, a brutal tale of a couple on vacation that turns into a nightmare when they are terrorized by sociopathic home invaders. Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt, Brady Corbet and Devon Gearhart star in the Warner Independent Pictures release.

Never Back Down (PG-13) At his new high school, a rebellious teen (Sean Faris) is lured into an underground fight club, where he finds a mentor in a mixed martial arts veteran (Djimon Hounsou), in this Summit Entertainment action-drama. The cast includes Amber Heard, Cam Gigandet, Evan Peters and Leslie Hope; the director is Jeff Wadlow ("Cry_Wolf").

Sleepwalking (R) This drama, starring and co-produced by Charlize Theron, follows an 11-year-old girl's struggle to come to terms with her mother's abandonment. The cast includes Nick Stahl, AnnaSophia Robb, Woody Harrelson and Dennis Hopper. The Overture Film release is directed by Bill Maher.
