Do you ever
wonder what the
heart of Los
Angeles looked
like 25,000
years ago, or
think about the
different
animals and
plants that were
here? Just what
did the
landscape look
like before tall
buildings,
concrete and
bright lights?
The answers to
all of these
questions are
just a visit
away at the
world's most
famous fossil
site; explore
the home of over
three million
fossils from the
last Ice Age at
La Brea
Tar Pits.
At the Page
Museum and Tar
Pits you will
learn about
geologic time,
asphalt
deposits,
entrapment
events, fossil
burial and
preservation,
microfossils and
the Pleistocene
Climate,
learning some
new vocabulary
words too. As
you walk
outside, smell
that wretched
yet familiar
stench of tar
and see the gas
bubbles erupting
on the surface
of Lake Pit. You
will see the
recreation of a
male Mastodon
trapped in the
tar as the
female Mastodon
and baby watch
as he tries to
struggle his way
out.
But that is not
all; there are
many different
activities and
programs at the
Page Museum for
your family. And
if you're an
adventurous type
or a science
seeker, you will
fit right in.
There are
various changing
limited
engagement
exhibits such as
the Dino Lab,
Fin Whale
Passage,
Pavilion of
Wings, or the
Spider Pavilion,
as well as
thirteen
permanent
exhibits for you
to enjoy with
your family.
After being that
awesome explorer
you are, fill
your hunger and
quench your
thirst. While
their cafe is
temporarily
closed, stop and
experience the
gourmet food
truck craze at
the South Lawn's
Pavilion Patio.
Or come with
your packed
lunch and eat by
the beautiful
garden. You will
think a day
spent here is
just about
perfect - you
experience a
moment with the
past, your tummy
is happy and you
learn some
things too - all
of this with no
electronic
devices. Mom and
Dad should love
that. So make a
plan this
weekend to take
the family on a
trip back in
time. I promise
you will go home
exhausted - and
a little bit
smarter.
