What are you on
the look out
for: An
introduction to
a lofty Lord or
Lady, a
flirtatious wink
with a lovely
wench or a
dashing rogue,
or perhaps the
slightest of
nods from her
royal highness
herself – Queen
Elizabeth I? Any
of these
scenarios are
possible and
more at
The Original
Renaissance
Pleasure Faire
now going on
until the 17th
of May.
If you have
never been, it
is really
something to
behold. I went
rather
reluctantly one
year and found
myself getting
caught up in all
the pageantry
and spectacle.
There I was
carrying around
a big turkey
leg, looking at
swords and
wondering if I
really needed my
family crest on
a coat of arms.
Yes, you
actually ask
yourself such
questions. My
point is, even
if you do not
consider
yourself a
“Renaissance
Faire” kind of
guy or gal, you
might just find
yourself
surprised. There
is just so much
to see and do,
that you and the
whole family
will find
yourself having
a very nice trip
back through
time.
Did I mention
wine tasting and
flagons of ale?
It’s starting to
sound better now
isn’t it? But
you can do more
than just drink
the wine, you
can make it.
Grape stomping
is available for
those who don’t
mind purple feet
and things
squishing
between their
toes. The kids
will love it,
but I’ll drink
the wine that’s
already in the
bottle – thank
you.
Grapes are only
a small part of
your day at the
faire as you
wander and see
so many sights,
sounds and
smells. Watch
the knights
battle for a
maiden’s hand,
help the lady
mayor choose her
husband, haggle
with an English
fishwife, join
the masquerade
parade and
celebration or
maybe even – get
married.
Yes, the
Renaissance
Faire is many
things to many
people and to
some of them it
is the place
where two become
one in a wedding
done Old England
style. Not for
everyone I am
sure, but it
certainly would
be interesting
to be on the
guest list.
Looks like just
about anything
goes but then is
a pleasure faire
and the pleasure
will surely be
yours if you
take the chance
to attend.
For as they “All
the faire’s a
stage and
fantasy rules
the land!” That
is what they say
there by the way
– it’s on the
website. Hey,
fantasy is in
charge, doesn’t
sound so bad to
me. Now where
did I put that
coat of arms?
